Hudson Valley Farmhouse: addition to residence

Nestled within the rolling landscape of New York’s Hudson Valley, this estate has evolved over time through a series of carefully considered projects. The most recent addition—a 5,000-square-foot expansion—continues that legacy, extending the historic farmhouse in a way that feels both natural and timeless.

Designed as a gracious counterpart to the original home, the addition centers on a light-filled living and gathering space anchored by two fireplaces and opening directly to a covered porch that frames views of the surrounding countryside. The ground floor also accommodates a home office, laundry, and supporting bathrooms, allowing daily life to unfold with ease and comfort.

Above, a primary bedroom suite and secondary office each open onto a second-floor covered porch, where a fireplace creates a year-round connection to the outdoors. Below grade, the home’s more intimate spaces—home theater, game room, and wine storage—offer places for retreat and entertaining.

Throughout the addition, meticulous attention was paid to proportion, detailing, and materiality, ensuring a seamless dialogue with the original farmhouse. Seven fireplaces, a grand stair hall, and custom millwork throughout lend a sense of permanence and craft, grounding the new work firmly within the architectural traditions of the Hudson Valley.
