Exterior snippets from various projects
Building proportions and exterior facades are developed with a keen eye. Connecting the interior to the exterior is an emphasis. The building sites and clients’ program begin to dictate spatial organization, window placement and access to the exterior. Ultimately, the exterior of the building should communicate the interior functions. This wholistic approach helps people connect what they see to what they experience.
A conscious decision needs to be made about whether or not an addition should blend with the existing structure or take on an identity of its own. On most projects great care is taken to make additions seamlessly mesh into the existing structure, making the final product appear as it has always been that way.
Building materials and technologies are constantly evolving. This is especially true with exterior finish materials. Many polymer and composite-based materials are now used to detail building exteriors. Research and material evaluation is ongoing. Appropriate materials are selected considering the client’s budget, material properties and how they are processed. The goal is to build with materials responsibly and choose materials that are durable and lasting. The intention is to create beautiful, durable buildings that can stand the test of time.
